A serious question

When driving to the beach recently, my wife complained that the L.Subramaniam music was giving her a headache and asked for the volume to be turned down. The volume that made her happy was too low for the music to be heard by anyone, so I switched off the tape player. My son complained from the back seat that he could not hear the music (did I mention this is one of his favorite tunes when we are driving?).

To distract him, I asked him, "Is it better to have one person 100% happy or two people 50% happy?" Then I realized, I did not know the answer myself, but luckily he did not call me on this. The question kept him occupied and we peacefully continued the journey.

I continue to wonder what the "right" answer is...

My First Post

Hello all,

This is my foray into the brave new world of blogging. Now that I have created an account for myself, the next step is to find out what this is all about. I also need to decide how to use this -- for speaking my mind (raving and ranting), practicing my writing skills, being thoughtful (or thoughtless) etc. It seems like a good idea at this time, but I may change my mind later.
